Why Track Harvest Properly
Most growers wing it. They eyeball the wet weight, jot dry weight on a sticky note, and forget which tent/strain produced what. Six months later they have no idea whether last cycle’s g/watt actually beat the cycle before.
GrowVPD Pro’s Auto Harvest Tracking computes everything you need from data already in your diary, the moment you tap “Harvested”. No spreadsheets, no math. The metrics that matter:
- Wet weight — immediate post-trim mass
- Dry weight — after the cure rack does its work (typically 7–14 days)
- Wet:dry ratio — sanity check for trichome health and dry-room humidity
- Yield per plant (g/plant) — planning multi-plant tents next time
- Yield per watt (g/W) — the universal LED efficiency benchmark
- Yield per square foot — tent-utilisation metric
- Cycle days — seed-to-harvest duration, separated by stage
- Cure log — daily RH inside the jars + days cured
The Workflow
Mark the grow as “Harvested”
In your grow detail screen, tap the Harvest button (visible from week 7 onward). The harvest dialog opens with prefilled fields:
- Today’s date as harvest date
- Number of plants from your grow setup
- Light wattage from your equipment profile
- Tent floor area from your equipment profile
Add the wet weight in grams. Save.
Start curing
Tap Start curing. Your buds are now “in cure”. The app schedules a daily reminder asking you to log the jar RH (with a hygrometer) and burp once.
Log dry weight when you weigh out
Once jars are stable around 60–62% RH (typically day 7–14), reweigh and enter dry weight. The app calculates wet:dry ratio (typical: 4.5–5.5 :1 for cannabis — significantly outside that range hints at trim style or cure issues).
See the stats card
Your grow detail page now shows a Harvest Stats card with all metrics computed:
- Yield per plant
- Yield per watt
- Yield per sq ft
- Cycle days (split veg/flower)
- Cure days
Cards are color-coded against the Cannabis Engineering Society yield benchmarks (g/W: <0.5 = below average, 0.5–0.8 = average, >0.8 = good, >1.2 = excellent).
Compare Across Grows
Diary tab → Compare → pick 2–5 grows. The comparison view stacks harvest cards side by side: ratios, totals, cycle lengths. Useful for A/B testing strains, lights or feeding schedules.
Wet:Dry Ratio Quick Reference
- 3:1 or lower — you waited too long before weighing wet, or your trim was very dry. Buds may have lost terps.
- 4:1 to 5:1 — ideal range for full-trim flower.
- 6:1 or higher — either you weighed before initial moisture loss settled, or your dry environment was too aggressive. Investigate.
Cure Log
Each curing day the app asks for jar RH. It plots the curve so you can see when buds dipped below 55% (re-humidify with Boveda) or stayed above 65% (burp longer, fresh paper). After 14 days you get a quality score and a “ready to long-term store” badge.
Sharing Your Stats
Tap the share icon on the Harvest Stats card to generate a clean infographic-style image with the strain name, yield numbers and tent setup. Pro users can enable photo watermarking so any diary photo you share carries the same stats overlay (see the Photo Watermarking guide).
Manual Override
Every prefilled field is editable. If your equipment profile says 320 W but you actually ran the light at 280 W (dimmed) for the last fortnight, change the “effective wattage” field before saving. The app will use your number for g/W.
