Why Track Strain & Lineage
If you grow a different strain every cycle, it’s easy to lose track. Pheno hunting? Even harder. GrowVPD Pro’s built-in strain catalogue plus the lineage tree view solve both problems:
- Pick from a catalogue of well-known cultivars (we ship hundreds, contributed by the community).
- Auto-fill flowering time, indica/sativa split, parent crosses when you set the strain on a grow.
- Lineage tree view shows which grow descended from which mother / clone batch / cross.
- Filter your diary by strain — instantly compare 4 cycles of GG#4 against each other.
It is offered as a free feature: no Pro subscription required.
Setting Strain on a New Grow
When you create a grow, the “Strain” field opens a typeahead picker:
- Search by name (“wedding cake”, “zkittlez”, etc.).
- Search by parent (“ogkb” surfaces all its descendants).
- Filter by indica/sativa/hybrid, autoflower, or photoperiod.
Picking a catalogued strain auto-fills the type, % indica/sativa, expected flower time, breeder, and any community notes. You can edit any field after.
Adding a Custom Strain
Not in the catalogue? Tap + New strain. Provide name, type, optionally flower time and parent crosses (if you know them). Custom strains are stored locally on your device and shared via diary export.
Lineage Tree View
Tap a strain in any grow to open its Lineage page:
- Center node: the current strain.
- Above: parent crosses (e.g. for Wedding Cake: Triangle Kush x Animal Mints).
- Below: any of your grows that used this strain, plus their harvest data.
Tap a parent to navigate up the tree. Tap one of your past grows to jump straight to its diary.
Pheno hunting tip. When you find an exceptional pheno, mark the grow as “Mother” in the lineage. Future cuts/clones from her can reference the mother grow as parent — the tree shows the cross-cycle pheno line cleanly.
Filtering Diary by Strain
Diary tab → filter chip → Strain → pick. The list shows every grow ever using that strain, sorted by date. Tap the comparison icon to chart yields, VPD averages, cycle lengths against each other.
Catalogue Source & Community
The strain catalogue ships from a curated list of public cannabis genetic data. It is not exhaustive — if your favourite breeder release isn’t in there, add it as a custom strain and (optionally) submit it via Discord. We bundle community submissions in monthly app updates.
Catalogue data fields: name, breeder, parents, type (indica/sativa/hybrid), expected flower time (days), THC range, CBD range, terpene profile (when known). All fields are optional — sparse data is fine.
