What Is Demo Mode?

Demo Mode populates GrowVPD Pro with realistic example data so you can explore every feature without owning a single device or starting a real grow. Use it to:

  • Try the VPD chart with live-looking sensor data.
  • Browse a sample diary populated with photos, harvest stats, lineage and notes.
  • Test the smart automation tab with simulated tents and rules.
  • Explore harvest analytics and curing logs end-to-end.
  • Demo the app to a friend or shop assistant before committing.

Demo data is fully isolated. You can clear it with one tap and your real diary is untouched.

What Gets Seeded

When you enable demo mode, the app creates:

  • 3 example strains in the catalogue (Wedding Cake, GG#4, Northern Lights).
  • 2 example grows:
    • “Demo Flower” — Wedding Cake, day 42, mid-flower, 6 photos, 12 diary entries, 3 stage transitions.
    • “Demo Veg” — GG#4 clone, day 18, vegetative, 4 photos.
  • 30 days of synthetic sensor history per grow (temp, RH, VPD, PPFD, CO2) at 15-minute resolution.
  • 1 demo tent & room in the Automation tab with a simulated controller, fan, dehumidifier and LED.
  • Sample automation rules — VPD-based fan, night CO2 hold, light schedule.

Demo entries are tagged with a small “DEMO” badge so you always know what’s real and what’s seeded.

Enabling Demo Mode

  1. Settings → Demo data.
  2. Tap Seed demo data. Two-second progress, then it’s ready.
  3. Open Diary tab — the two demo grows appear. Open VPD chart — sensor history is populated. Open Automation — the demo tent shows live values.

Clearing Demo Data

Settings → Demo data → Clear demo data. Removes everything tagged DEMO. Real grows you created are not touched.

Safety. The clear operation only deletes rows where isDemoSeeded = true. Your manually-created grows, sensors, photos and rules are filtered out from the cleanup. Tested in 9+ unit tests.

Realism of the Demo Data

Synthetic sensor data follows realistic curves:

  • Temperature swings 21–27°C across the photoperiod.
  • Humidity drops 5–10% during lights-on as transpiration kicks in.
  • VPD stays mostly within the green stage band, with one or two excursions per day.
  • PPFD ramps up with sunrise simulation, peaks for 12 h, ramps down.
  • CO2 shows daytime drawdown (plant uptake) and nighttime recovery.

Numbers are not random — they were generated to match an actual mid-flower Wedding Cake grow logged on our test bench, with light noise added. Useful for evaluating the analytics view (you should see “stable” in stability scores, “medium-high” in PPFD efficiency, etc.).

Showing the App to Someone Else

Demo mode is the recommended way to walk a friend or hardware-shop staff through GrowVPD Pro:

  1. Enable demo data.
  2. Show them the VPD chart with the heatmap and live point.
  3. Open the diary, scroll the photos, show the harvest card.
  4. Open Automation, point out the simulated tent dashboard.
  5. Clear demo data when done.

No real devices needed, no internet needed beyond the initial app install.

Demo and Real Data Coexist

You can run demo mode while you have real grows. The demo data appears alongside, badged distinctly. Real diary metrics (g/W, cycle days etc.) only count your real grows — demo entries are excluded from totals.
