What Is Demo Mode?

Demo Mode populates GrowVPD Pro with example data so you can explore the app without owning a single device or starting a real grow. Use it to:

  • Browse sample grows with diary entries, a harvest record and notes.
  • See the variety library and lineage view with sample varieties.
  • Explore harvest stats and the curing log end-to-end.
  • If you already have tents with sensors, fill their charts with a month of sensor history and add sample automation rules.
  • Demo the app to a friend or shop assistant before committing.

Demo data is tagged, so you can clear it with one tap and the grows you created yourself are untouched. (The first time you open an empty Diary tab, the app also adds a few sample diaries with photos, marked “[Sample]”; you can delete them like any other grow.)

What Gets Seeded

When you enable demo mode, the app creates:

  • 8 example varieties in your variety list, some with parent varieties for the lineage view.
  • 3 example grows:
    • A grow in flower, week 6, with four weekly entries and its stage changes.
    • A grow harvested two weeks ago, with wet and dry weight and a curing record.
    • A fresh seedling grow with its first entry.
  • For tents that already exist in the Automation tab (Android): 30 days of hourly sensor history and 7 days of 30-minute readings for each tent’s main sensor, and 7 days of energy estimates for devices with a known power rating.
  • Sample automation rules for those tents — VPD, temperature ceiling and humidity floor/ceiling, plus a daytime CO2 target if the tent has a CO2 sensor — depending on which devices the tent has.

Demo mode does not create rooms, tents or devices. The sample grows and rules have names starting with “Demo:” so you always know what’s real and what’s seeded.

Enabling Demo Mode

  1. Settings → Data.
  2. Tap Seed demo data. Two-second progress, then it’s ready.
  3. Open Diary tab — the three demo grows appear. If you have tents with sensors, their charts now show a month of history and the Automation tab lists the sample rules.

Clearing Demo Data

Settings → Data → Clear demo data. Removes the demo varieties, the “Demo:” grows with their entries, and the “Demo:” rules. Real grows you created are not touched. Sensor history that demo mode added to your own sensors stays.

Safety. The clear operation only deletes rows that carry the demo marker: demo varieties, grows tagged in their notes, and rules whose name starts with “Demo:”. Your manually-created grows, sensors, photos and rules are filtered out from the cleanup.

Realism of the Demo Data

Synthetic sensor data follows a simple day/night pattern (lights on for 12 hours a day in flower or 18 hours in veg):

  • Temperature around 25°C with the lights on and 21°C with them off in flower (24/22°C in veg), with a little noise.
  • Humidity about 5% lower during lights-on.
  • VPD calculated from those values.
  • In the hourly history, PPFD rises and falls over the light period and is zero at night.
  • The 30-minute readings include three short gaps, like a sensor that dropped out.

The numbers are synthetic — fixed day and night baselines with random noise added — not a recording of a real grow. There is no CO2 history.

Showing the App to Someone Else

Demo mode is the recommended way to walk a friend or hardware-shop staff through GrowVPD Pro:

  1. Enable demo data.
  2. Show them the VPD chart with the heatmap.
  3. Open the diary, scroll the entries, show the harvest card.
  4. If you have a tent set up, open Automation and show its rules and history.
  5. Clear demo data when done.

No real devices needed, no internet needed beyond the initial app install.

Demo and Real Data Coexist

You can run demo mode while you have real grows. The demo grows appear alongside yours, named with “Demo:”. They are ordinary grows, so until you clear them they also show up in comparisons and harvest statistics.
