Where we come from
A small crew of growers and programmers in the Czech Republic, tired of $2,500 closed controllers and apps that won’t talk to each other. We started building GrowVPD Pro because we wanted it for our own grow rooms — and the apps we tried felt either toy-grade or enterprise-only, with nothing in between.
What we believe
Local data, BYOD hardware, no cloud lock-in, no data selling. Your diary lives on your phone, not our server. Your Tuya credentials, your call. Pricing should be predictable, not a hostage situation that triples after year one. We refuse to ship integrations we can’t test on real hardware.
Where we’re going
Aggressive launch pricing while we earn your trust. Eventually a commercial Tuya tier ($25k/yr, kicks in around 1,000 paid users), an ESP32 BYOD dongle for pro lights, and Raspberry Pi hub support. We’ll raise prices once we’ve proven the app — not before.

LAN direct
For 230 V mains devices: smart plugs, AC units, lights, fans, valves. v3.5 GCM protocol. Sub-second response. Zero cloud calls.
Cloud Bridge wizard
For battery WiFi sensors (wsdcg, co2bj) and foreign-region devices. 5-step guided wizard pairs your own Tuya IoT trial with the app. Your credentials, encrypted on device.
Zigbee via hub
For Aqara, Sonoff, Tuya Zigbee sensors. Live data + multi-year battery life. Pair through Blow Smart Hub or Sonoff ZBDongle. Recommended for serious sensor coverage.
Rule of thumb: mains plug? Path A. Battery sensor? Path C if you can, Path B if you must. The app tells you which path fits your device the moment you add it.
Hub Mode — turn an old phone into your grow guardian
Got an old Android in a drawer? Plug it in next to the tent, install GrowVPD, enable Hub Mode. It becomes a 24/7 sync anchor and automation runner. Foreground service survives reboots, battery whitelist keeps it awake, persistent notification keeps Android happy. ~5 minutes of setup, runs forever on a 4–5-year-old phone.
Different from a Tuya Zigbee hub: that’s for sub-devices. Hub Mode is for keeping your app running 24/7 so automation rules fire on time, sensor data logs continuously, and your other phones stay in sync even when they’re asleep.
Multi-device sync — two phones, same diary
Pair phones with a one-time QR code. After that, your diary, photos and sensor history sync over local Wi-Fi automatically. Encrypted with Ed25519 keys derived at pairing — the data never crosses our hands, never touches a central server, doesn’t need internet at all.
Off-LAN fallback: if you’re on cellular while your partner’s home, an optional WebSocket relay (Bring Your Own Host) carries the encrypted blob blindly. You can self-host it on a Raspberry Pi or Oracle Cloud Always Free tier today; an official relay is on the 6-month roadmap.
